  • Canon Teases 250- Megapixel Sensor

Camera maker Canon has developed a CMOS sensor with 250 million pixels that records video that’s 125 times that of Full HD. Canon has a new trick up its sleeve that it says will deliver exceedingly high- quality visuals. Canon’s 250-megapixel camera sensor has the highest number of pixels—250 million—for a CMOS smaller than a 35-millimeter sensor. In a world where smartphones outfitted with 20 megapixels or less are among the most desired ways to capture images, the idea of 250 megapixels is staggering. Canon’s sensor can achieve a resolution that is 125 times greater than a full HD image of 1,920 by 1,080 pixels and 30 times greater than a 4K video at 3,840 by 2,160 pixels. Canon, which installed the sensor in a camera prototype, said that it was able to snap photos that could distinguish lettering on the side of an airplane flying 18 kilometers (11.2 miles) away. The company said Canon Inc. is developing a Cinema EOS System 8K camera and reference display that will support next-gen 8K video. canon-eos
